I realize this blog post is not wedding related, but I thought it was important to share. Today starts National Small Business Week. This week is dedicated to recognizing the contributions made by America's entrepreneurs. Prior to starting my own business, I never thought much about small businesses. Yes, I always 'tried' to support local businesses, but I never realized how important small businesses are to a community. Now, as a small business owner myself, I meet other small business owners almost daily. The wedding industry is filled with hundreds of small businesses.
This quote could not be more true. The money I make from my side business goes directly to my family. This money goes towards soccer lessons for my son. It pays for our family vacation to the shore, and it goes into an emergency fund for unexpected car repairs or medical bills. As a wedding planner I now always try to partner with local, family owned wedding vendors.
This week, please make a conscious effort to support small businesses in your community. Go to the family owned hardware store instead of Home Depot. Get your wedding attire at the local bridal shop instead of David's Bridal. Buy your lunch from the local deli instead of Wawa. I guarantee you, you will receive better service.
